- 1977 - The U.S. State Department lifts its ban on gay and lesbian employees.
- 1978 - Oklahoma passes a "Teacher Fitness" statute, allowing local school boards to fire any teacher who "advocates, encourages or promotes" homosexuality.
- 1991 - L.A. Law airs its "lesbian kiss" episode.
