Readers Respond - Pope - Comment by Patricia

Subject: Article about Pope JohnPaul II

Ms Levison,

I just finished reading your comments about what took place at Jubilee 2000 in Rome. May I ask, "are you speaking as a Jewish person or as a gay person or both?"Catholics believe that some people are gay but cannot indulge in sex. We also believe that heterosexual unmarried people cannot indulge in sex either.

While I understand that Jewish people do not accept Jesus as your messiah, you would then not read the new testament. It states that people of the same sex "lying together" is an abomination to God. So are unmarrieds "lying together".

I am Catholic, who is very sad at gays situation in having no options. I am not writing to debate you but just stating my beliefs. I also think that such a short editorial does not do justice to the Pope's true message.

Please except this message with respect for my beliefs also.

Thank you,
Patricia
