The Southern California chapter of Mystery Writers of
America presented its third annual lifetime achievement award, "The
Marlowe," to writer-producer-director Blake Edwards (of Pink
Panther, Peter Gunn, etc., fame) at a June ceremony at the Friars
Club. Bob, chapter president, looked on as the presentation was made by
special guest Julie Andrews. |

The Q&A session was conducted with Blake by
Bob and past national president William Link (of Columbo,
Murder, She Wrote, etc., fame). |

James Lincoln Warren welcomes Bob to the
exclusive club of chapter members who've achieved "cover"
stories in Alfred Hitchcock Mystery Magazine. Jim's appeared early
in the year, while Bob's AHMM debut carried in the July-August
double-summer issue. |

Edgar-winner John Morgan Wilson and Bob
both appear in Ellery Queen Mystery Magazine in 2003. John's short
story ran in the May issue. Bob's EQMM debut is scheduled for
December. |

The Lifetime Achievement Award program featured
tributes to Blake by novelist Gar Anthony Haywood, a past MWA-SoCal
president, and TV scripter Paul Guyot. Both described how their
life and work was substantially influenced by Blake. |
