Open Offer to Laura Schlessinger [Page 2]
I was therefore surprised when my posted offer didn't immediately appear. I returned to the welcome screen information once again and read a bit more: When you submit a post, it is "screened" by several security measures, and if it passes them, it goes "live" at once. If it fails any of these measures, it is sent to a moderator, who reviews it for suitability before posting it on the Forum. This may take anywhere from a few hours to a day, depending on when you make the post, and how many posts we have to review. "Hmmmmmmm," I thought. What on earth in my letter would cause it to be screened. I reread my letter carefully and was unable to find any of George Carlin's "Seven Dirty Words You Can't Say on TV" (although we have heard most all of them by now) in my offer. I was befuzzled and thought I had misread the information and that all posts are pre-screened. And then I realized what must have set off the screening alarms. My use of the words "gay" and "lesbian." I assume that my posted offer will be released when the moderators get around to reading and reviewing it. When the post is released I will be asking Ms. Laura's people to explain just why the words "gay" and/or "lesbian" are so inherently dangerous as to subject a post to pre-screening. Heck, I don't prescreen the posts at the Gay/Lesbian Issues Forum for traces of the word "Schlessinger." And, should the post not be released I will be doubly curious. After all, what reason would there be to hide my offer to publicize Ms. Laura's gay and lesbian support. Other than to provide her the continued opportunity to decry how so many are silencing her and her legion of fans. Regardless, we won't know until my own post has been ... well ... unsilenced by Ms. Laura. In Pride,
